LMIA Work Permits

What is an LMIA Work Permit?

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a confirmation letter from Employment and Social Development Canada that gives the employer permission to hire a temporary worker. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job the employer is offering and no Canadian worker is available for the job. With the positive LMIA, a foreign worker is eligible to apply for a work permit and receive additional points for their permanent residence application. Additionally, they will be able to receive tuition benefits for their child after receiving an LMIA work permit.
